Bosomtwe Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has subtly hinted at his intention to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
The former Education Minister stated that he sees many opportunities in Ghana and believes it will take a determined and competent leader to fully harness them.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr. Adutwum declared that he has no doubt he possesses the qualities needed to drive Ghana’s development.
“Your vision must scare you—if not, you are not changing your country. You are setting a growth rate that is so high, but that is what the economists are telling you you must have to develop your country.
“Then you are looking for people who are competent, fully determined that the course of the history of their nation will be better because they came—and with that sense of determination, I have no doubt in my mind,” he stated.
He added that in the coming days, he will address the lingering question on the minds of many Ghanaians to clear all doubts.
“I have no doubt in my mind that opportunities abound. To what extent can we utilise them? How are we using the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA)? The Chinese are promising to give us free tariffs—how are we going to use that? In any country, we would have had guidance centres,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum also revealed plans to convert the Business Resource Centres, established by former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, into “Prosperity Centres” to provide solutions and guidance to promote economic growth.
Although he has yet to officially declare his intent, former NPP Chairman for the Fomena Constituency, Kwasi Nti, recently endorsed him as the best candidate.
This open declaration—made on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem show—has attracted public attention, especially given that Kwasi Nti is widely known to be politically aligned with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who was Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 elections.
