The Management of Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) in the Accra West Region has announced a planned shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant on Thursday, December 4, 2025, to carry out urgent repairs on a damaged transmission pipeline.

In a statement dated December 2, GWL explained that a major pipeline transporting water from the treatment plant to western parts of Accra has developed “serious perforations,” posing a risk of total failure if not repaired immediately.

The shutdown is scheduled to take place from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Areas expected to be affected include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, and Anyaa, as well as Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, the North Industrial Area, and surrounding communities.

GWL assured that water production will resume as soon as the repair works are completed. Customers are advised to store sufficient water ahead of the outage to minimise inconvenience.

The company apologised for the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and reliable water supply system.
