Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber has expressed interest in signing Mohamed Salah, revealing that he deliberately waited to comment until the forward confirmed his exit from Liverpool FC.
Salah’s announcement that he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season has sparked widespread speculation about his next move, with several leagues now vying for his signature.
Speaking at the SBJ Business of Soccer event in Atlanta, Garber did not rule out the possibility of the Egyptian star joining MLS.
“I couldn’t say that until he announced he was leaving Liverpool,” he said. “But what a great player he would be in MLS. And I think we would provide him with a great platform.”
Garber’s remarks reflect MLS’s long-standing strategy of attracting high-profile global players who can elevate both the league’s sporting and commercial profile.
Few players fit that description better than Salah. Widely regarded as one of the game’s most influential figures, the Egyptian forward boasts an impressive résumé at Liverpool and commands enormous global appeal.
Although no official move has been made, the commissioner’s comments underscore MLS’s intent to position itself as a leading contender for one of the most sought-after free agents on the market, as the league continues to market itself as an attractive destination for elite players entering the next phase of their careers.
