Elisha Owusu has set the tone for Ghana’s ambitions at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the Black Stars are aiming for a deep run rather than a symbolic appearance.
The four-time African champions will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Having suffered group-stage exits at both the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, Owusu says the squad is determined to rewrite history this time.
“Our main goal is to go far in the World Cup and to show the world that African football is feared,” the Black Stars midfielder told Flashscore.
“We won’t go there just to participate; we want to perform with humility and demonstrate what Ghana can do,” he added.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia. Otto Addo’s men open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23, with their final group fixture against Croatia scheduled for June 27.
As part of their preparations, the team will regroup in March for international friendlies against Austria and Germany, followed by a test against Mexico in May to fine-tune their plans for the Mundial.
