We will soon be champions if… – GFA boss tells Black Queens

Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), remains hopeful about the Black Queens’ chances of becoming African champions despite their narrow 4-2 penalty shootout loss to Morocco in the semifinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The tense encounter on Tuesday night in Morocco ended 1-1 after regulation and extra time. Ghana took the lead through Stella Nyamekye, but Morocco equalised through Sakina Ouzraoui to force the game into penalties.

Missed spot-kicks by Comfort Yeboah and Evelyn Badu proved costly, handing the host nation a place in the final.

Reacting after the match, Okraku praised the team’s resilience and progress, urging Ghanaians to remain optimistic.

“We will soon be champions if we build on this!!” he wrote on his official Facebook page.

The Black Queens now turn their attention to the third-place playoff against South Africa, scheduled for Friday at 19:00 GMT.
