The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reiterated its opposition to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
The party has vowed not to participate in the rerun, insisting that its candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, rightfully won the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election.
NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, made the announcement during a press conference in the constituency on Tuesday, July 8.
“For us in the New Patriotic Party, we are resolute, and we know that our candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, won the elections with a margin of 414 votes. This is based on facts and figures. Yesterday, when the National Executive Committee met, we said that under no circumstances will we be intimidated,” he stated.
With the rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, the NPP has argued that the EC’s decision undermines the will of the people.
“Under no circumstances will we go for a rerun. We will not go for any rerun. The New Patriotic Party will not go for any rerun. We have won the elections.
“What we are asking the Electoral Commission to do is to follow the court’s directive to finish the collation and declare our candidate, Akua Afriyie, as the MP for Ablekuma North,” he added.
The EC has explained that the rerun is due to the absence of validation of scanned results by Presiding Officers in the 19 polling stations.
However, the NPP insists that all necessary procedures were followed and that party agents, along with EC officials, duly verified and signed the results at the affected polling stations.
In a related development, Nana Akua Afriyie has filed an injunction at the Accra High Court seeking to block the election.
