Residents of Ohwimase, Gyimakyi Anwiaso and neighbouring communities in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region are appealing for improved healthcare access, saying the absence of a nearby health facility is putting pregnant women and sick persons at risk.

The residents say they often rely on motorbikes and tricycles, popularly known as Aboboyaa, to transport patients over distances exceeding 15 miles to health facilities in Asiwa, Bodwesango or the district capital.

They say the situation is particularly challenging during medical emergencies, with poor road conditions making it difficult for vehicles to reach the communities.

In response to the healthcare challenges, a native of the community, Nana Boateng Prosper Ayebida, has cut the sod for the construction of a 50-bed-capacity clinic at Ohwimase.

The proposed facility is expected to provide healthcare services to more than ten communities that currently lack access to a nearby health facility.

Speaking to the media, Nana Boateng Prosper Ayebida called for partnerships between individuals, institutions and the government to improve healthcare delivery, particularly in rural communities.

Meanwhile, Sylvester Agyapong, Deputy Presidential Staffer for the Ashanti Region, has also commented on the development.
