Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has called for a more decisive and firm style of leadership to accelerate Ghana’s development.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Obeng said he would not mind being described as autocratic if it means achieving results, arguing that many successful countries began with strong and determined leadership.

He stressed the need for leaders who are committed to delivering results, noting that Ghana has the potential to overcome its economic challenges.

Mr. Obeng also expressed confidence in President John Dramani Mahama, describing him as truthful and capable of steering the country towards progress.

He further commended key government officials for what he described as efforts to lay a solid foundation for national development.

According to him, there is no justification for Ghana to remain poor, insisting that with the right leadership and commitment, the country can achieve significant growth.

“I never called for a third term for John Mahama. I only called for an end to the term limit, regardless of whoever is in power. We have to consider ending term limits in Ghana. I don’t think it helps; there is not a single country that develops with term limits.

“Every government performs well in its first term because there is an incentive to secure a second term, but once that is achieved, the incentive to perform declines.

“Naturally, they anticipate losing power, so they relax. Democracy needs to be tailored to a country’s culture and history. I believe in democracy, but it must suit the people.

“We need a national blueprint that every government will follow. You cannot run a country based solely on party manifestos,” he stated.
