The King of Eswantini, Mswati III, has urged the modernization and documentation of cultures to strengthen their roles in governance and public administration.
According to him, local laws must be rooted in traditions, not super-imposed foreign ideals.
“By codifying our customs, we ensure they are recognized globally and serve as tools for good governance,” he stated.
Addressing a historic durbar of chiefs to honour his visit to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, King Mswati said Eswantini strives to blend tradition with progress.
He noted the people of Asante and Eswantini share a proud history of resilience against colonial shadows.
He said the bravery and resilience of the Asantes not to surrender the Golden Stool should echo the unyielding spirit of the people.
“The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s interspersion of traditional leadership into modern administration is a model of how culture can enhance effective governance, ensuring services reach our people while honouring our heritage,” said King Mswati.
The durbar of chiefs to honor King Mswati III attracted paramount chiefs in Asante region.
Daasebre Otuo Serebour II, the Paramount Chief of Juaben Traditional Area, speaking on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, said the visit of Mswati III shall strengthen the bond of kingship between Eswantini and Asanteman.
“May it pave the way for cultural, economic and spiritual exchanges that honor our past and build a better future,” he stated.
Daasebre Otuo Serebour II said the encounter should echo across Africa as a call to unity, heritage and progress.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim represented President Mahama at the durbar for King of Eswantini.
