We haven’t received any formal notice – GPCC on prophecies directive

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) says it has not received any formal communication from the Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations regarding proposed guidelines for handling prophecies deemed to be of national significance.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, GPCC General Secretary Apostle Immanuel Tettey said the Council will respond officially once it receives the directive in writing.

“The GPCC normally will not have such controversial prophecies in the public domain. We have engaged our member churches and leaders. If it is written to us, we shall seek clarification from the office and determine the appropriate course of action,” he noted.

This follows viral videos that surfaced after the August 6 military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers. In some of the clips, self-proclaimed prophets claimed they had foreseen the tragedy but their warnings went unheeded.

On Sunday, August 10, the Office of the Presidential Envoy urged religious leaders to submit any prophecy or spiritual insight concerning high-profile political leaders, governance issues, national security, or public stability through formal channels.

Meanwhile, former General Secretary of the Christian Council, Rev. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has criticised the directive as ill-timed, noting that the nation is still mourning the eight distinguished individuals who perished in the crash.
