Ghana head coach Otto Addo says his side is well-equipped to take on Austria ahead of their international friendly on Friday evening.

The Black Stars face the European outfit in the first of two friendlies lined up for this month, as preparations intensify for upcoming international assignments.

Speaking on Thursday, Addo acknowledged the strength of the opposition but maintained confidence in his squad’s ability to compete on equal footing, even on foreign soil.

“It will be an interesting game. I am expecting an intense game, as all Austria matches are. Everybody knows the coach, a little bit of backwards school, and that is what we expect,” Addo said.

Addo highlighted Austria’s physicality and high-tempo approach, noting the calibre of players within their ranks who feature for top European clubs. Despite this, he insisted Ghana possesses enough quality to rise to the challenge.

“We know they are every good, very physical, a very high-intensity team, and they run a lot. The profile of their players is really high because they play in good clubs, but we also have good players, and it will be interesting for us after a very long time to play against a European team, and it will be a tough test for us,” he added.

The match will be played at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 GMT.

The fixture forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
