Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew is optimistic about Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana boosted their qualification hopes in March with back-to-back emphatic victories over Chad and Madagascar.
The Black Stars cruised to a 5-0 win against Chad and followed up with a commanding 3-0 triumph over Madagascar.
These wins propelled Ghana to the top of Group I with 15 points, with four crucial matches remaining in the qualifiers.
Speaking to the Ghana FA media after finishing third in the Unity Cup, Ayew expressed confidence in the team’s current position and their ability to secure a spot at the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“I think we have a very good chance of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he told Ghana FA media.
“The team fought hard for the points against Chad and Madagascar in March, and that has put us in a very good place on top of the table.”
The Leicester City forward emphasised the team’s focus heading into the final stretch of the qualifiers.
“But it is not yet over. We have four more matches to play, and we are focused on winning them.
“We have Chad and Mali in September; it won’t be easy, same as Central African Republic and Comoros. But with this kind of mentality and team spirit, we will succeed,” he added.
Ghana will travel to face Chad before hosting Mali in their Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures in September as they continue their quest for a fifth World Cup appearance.
