Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says the party has no intention of sidelining former President John Agyekum Kufuor, following the statesman’s recent concerns about neglect and exclusion.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Ahiagbah described Mr. Kufuor as a key pillar of the party whose contributions and guidance are always valued.
“You can’t pass by President Kufuor and not seek his advice. He’s someone whose legacy and wisdom are critical to the growth of our party,” he said.
His comments come in response to a recent video in which former President Kufuor expressed disappointment over what he described as a growing sense of marginalization within the NPP.
Mr. Kufuor lamented that the current leadership had largely kept him out of party decisions despite his long-standing contributions.
But Mr. Ahiagbah dismissed any claims of deliberate exclusion.
“There is no way the NPP will intentionally leave President Kufuor out of anything. If there’s been an oversight, then it’s not deliberate,” he insisted.
He added that the party takes Mr. Kufuor’s concerns seriously and has already begun steps to address them.
“It’s a big issue, and the party has taken it seriously. The leadership has formed a committee to look into the matter and engage accordingly,” he revealed.
Mr. Ahiagbah acknowledged that, in the fast pace of political activity, there may have been missteps.
“Sometimes in the rush of things, mistakes happen, some of which we may not even immediately realise. But we love President Kufuor and always want him close to the party. His counsel has shaped many of our decisions,” he stated.
He assured the party’s rank and file and the former President that all efforts will be made to strengthen ties and ensure no one feels left out, especially someone of Kufuor’s stature.
