Assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, Hamza Obeng, has apologised to the club’s supporters following their defeat to Karela United in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors travelled to the Aliu Mahama Stadium for their Matchday 25 fixture in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign but suffered a narrow loss.

A first-half strike from Malik Abubakar proved decisive for the home side after Kotoko were reduced to ten men when Henry Ansu received a red card in the 40th minute.

Speaking after the match, Obeng expressed disappointment with the outcome and apologised to the club’s fans while urging the team to quickly refocus on upcoming fixtures.

“We are down with the result that we had today, but it’s part of the game. We need to take it aside and concentrate on our next game,” he said.

“Unfortunately for us, we were not able to put the ball in the back of the net, and we conceded that easy goal at the time we were down by one man. We are sorry for losing this game, but the league title race is not over yet,” Obeng added.

The defeat means Kotoko have now lost three of their last five league matches, with their only victory during that period coming in a 2-0 win over Young Apostles FC.

The result leaves the Kumasi-based side fifth on the league table with 39 points. Their next assignment will be a clash against Nations FC.
