Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has urged his players to remain grounded and focused as Ghana continues its push for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana currently tops Group I in the African qualifiers with 15 points, following back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar in March.
With just four matches remaining, confidence is growing among fans that the four-time African champions are on course to book their ticket to the tournament, set to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
However, Addo, who led the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is cautioning against complacency.
“It’s always easier to work when you win. But on the other hand, we have to stay humble. We have to keep on working,” he told ghanafa.org.
“If anybody thinks we are already at the World Cup, I can guarantee you, it’s not like that. I have seen too many things in football, and we really, really have to work hard to fulfil our aim,” the 49-year-old added.
Ghana’s most recent fixtures saw them suffer a defeat to Nigeria but bounce back with a win over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup, played in London last month.
The Black Stars will return to competitive action in September, when they face Chad and Mali on Matchdays 7 and 8 of the qualifiers.
