The President of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association, Ebenezer Boateng, has expressed deep disappointment in the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, over the government’s failure to pay their allowances five months after deployment.
According to Mr. Boateng, the Association had high hopes when the Minister was appointed, especially since he had been vocal about their plight while in opposition.
However, since assuming office, the Minister has remained silent despite several letters and petitions submitted to his office and the Ministry of Health.
“We thought we would be among the first to be addressed, but sadly, we’ve received no response,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem.
He added that many rotational nurses have been forced to take on menial jobs and online businesses just to survive.
The Association has issued a 14-working-day ultimatum to the Ministries of Health and Finance to grant financial clearance and pay their outstanding allowances.
If their demands are not met, they plan to embark on a strike, hold press conferences, and explore alternative sources of livelihood.
