Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is bracing for a demanding test when Ghana face Austria in an international friendly on Friday.

The match will be played at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, with kick-off set for 17:00 GMT, as the West Africans continue their build-up to the next global showpiece.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Addo acknowledged the challenge posed by Austria, predicting a high-tempo contest against the side coached by Ralf Rangnick.

“It will be an interesting game. I am expecting an intense game, as all Austria matches are. Everybody knows the coach, a little bit of backwards school, and that is what we expect,” the 50-year-old said.

The Ghana coach highlighted Austria’s physicality and relentless pressing style, noting that many of their players compete at top European clubs. However, he expressed confidence in his own squad’s ability to rise to the occasion.

“We know they are every good, very physical, a very high-intensity team, and they run a lot. The profile of their players is really high because they play in good clubs, but we also have good players, and it will be interesting for us after a very long time to play against a European team, and it will be a tough test for us,” he added.

The friendly forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
