Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, says the club is complying with FIFA’s directives as it works to settle the debt owed to former technical director René Hiddink.
The Dutch coach joined the Phobians in 2023 on a three-year deal but exited just eight months later. His departure came with an outstanding balance, prompting him to seek FIFA’s intervention after the club terminated his contract prematurely.
FIFA subsequently imposed a transfer ban on Hearts of Oak for failing to pay the remaining $150,000, blocking the club from registering new players until the debt is fully cleared.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo revealed that Hiddink has now taken the matter to a Ghanaian court, despite already receiving a ruling from FIFA. He maintained that the club is committed to honouring the payment.
“René Hiddink has taken our debt case to a Ghanaian court despite the FIFA ruling, but Hearts of Oak is complying with FIFA directives to settle the outstanding debt owed to him,” he said.
He insisted the club is not avoiding responsibility.
“Hearts of Oak aren’t reluctant to settle our debt with René Hiddink,” he added.
Hearts of Oak currently sit sixth on the Ghana Premier League table with 18 points from 11 matches.
