Wassa Damang Chief Nana Enimere Kwaw II mourns victims of helicopter crash

Nana Enimere Kwaw II, Chief of Wassa Damang, has joined the nation in mourning the eight lives lost in the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement on behalf of himself and the entire Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, the Chief extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, and the people of Ghana.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn alongside the bereaved families and the entire nation during this difficult time,” he said.
“This tragedy is a loss not only to the affected families but to the whole country.”

The crash claimed the lives of prominent public figures including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and five others, including military personnel.

The Z-9 Ghana Air Force helicopter reportedly lost radar contact shortly after departing Accra for Obuasi and crashed near Adansi Sikaman.

The Chief offered prayers for healing and unity in this time of grief.

“May the Almighty grant our nation resilience and unity in this moment of sorrow. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” he added.

The government has launched a full investigation and declared three days of national mourning, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast across the country.

A tragic helicopter crash occurred in Ghana’s Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of eight prominent individuals, including:

The Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter, which departed from Kotoka International Airport in Accra en route to Obuasi Airport, lost radar contact shortly after takeoff and crashed in a remote area near Adansi Sikaman.

The Ghana Armed Forces has launched a full investigation into the incident, with possible causes including technical issues and adverse weather conditions. President John Dramani Mahama declared three days of national mourning, with national flags flying at half-mast.
