A Warrant Officer has been arrested in the Ashanti Region for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of firearms to criminal groups.
The arrest followed an undercover operation by security agencies at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station, where the suspect, identified as Brew, was apprehended while attempting to hand over firearms valued at about GH₵80,000 to agents posing as buyers.
According to security sources, preliminary questioning indicates that Brew admitted to supplying weapons to individuals operating around the Obuasi area, raising serious concerns about the circulation of illegal arms and internal security.
The arrest has prompted further investigations, with security agencies pursuing other suspected accomplices believed to be part of the network.
Authorities say Brew remains in custody as investigations continue, and efforts are underway to recover any additional weapons linked to the alleged operation.
