Police in Walewale have arrested two young men for allegedly stealing an immigration officer’s pistol and ammunition.
The suspects have been identified as 18-year-old Mohammed Basit and 22-year-old Baba Rasid.
A police statement revealed that the suspects entered the officer’s room around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while he was away, and took his firearm and ammunition.
The stolen items included a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, along with two CZ rifle magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds.
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabik Anmain of the North East Regional Police Public Relations Unit, explained that the suspects were arrested through intelligence-led operations in Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale.
The stolen weapon and ammunition were also discovered hidden in a stationary vehicle.
The duo are currently in custody and are expected to be put before court.
