The Black Starlets of Ghana have arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, after completing a gruelling 20-hour road journey ahead of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 10, with Ghana among the teams competing for qualification to the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Starlets began their journey in Accra before travelling to Bolgatanga, where they spent four days at the Winkogo Technical Centre continuing their preparations for the competition.
The team then resumed their journey by road on Tuesday, travelling across the border into Burkina Faso before arriving in the capital, Ouagadougou.
The lengthy trip comes only days after Ghana returned from Morocco, where the team played two friendly matches against the hosts as part of their final preparations.
The Starlets won the opening encounter 2-0 before Morocco secured a 2-1 victory in the second match with the final kick of the game.
Ghana have been drawn in Group B alongside hosts Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin.
The top two teams in the group will qualify for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, making the opening matches particularly important for the Starlets.
However, the team’s long road journey has raised questions about the logistics surrounding the tournament, particularly the welfare of the young players travelling through a region that continues to face security challenges.
The Starlets will now settle in Ouagadougou and complete their preparations before beginning their campaign on home soil against some of the leading U17 sides in the WAFU Zone B region.
