WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup: Ghana U-20 beat Niger to clinch bronze

Ghana’s U20 national team wrapped up their campaign at the maiden WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup with a 2-0 victory over Niger to secure third place at the University of Ghana Stadium.

In a tightly contested first half, both teams enjoyed spells of possession, but Ghana looked the more purposeful in attack and ended the half with the upper hand.

After the restart, Coach Desmond Ofei’s charges asserted their dominance, combining technical prowess with physical strength to neutralize Niger’s threats.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 67th minute when the referee pointed to the spot for a handball in the Niger box. The decision sparked protests from the Nigerien players, who momentarily walked off the pitch. Calm was restored following intervention from CAF officials, and play resumed.

Aziz Musibau made no mistake from the spot, converting the penalty in the 70th minute to put Ghana ahead.

The striker was on target again just eight minutes later, capping off a sharp attacking move. Kelvin Nkrumah delivered a precise low cross from the right, and Musibau applied the finishing touch from close range to complete his brace.

Ghana held firm in the final moments to close out the win and take home the bronze medal in the tournament’s inaugural edition.
