WAFU B U-20 Girls’ Cup: Black Princesses end campaign with defeat to Nigeria

-

The Black Princesses suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Falconets of Nigeria in their final group game of the WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup.

Ghana came into the fixture on the back of a 2-0 win over Benin in the early hours of Monday.

Head coach for the side, Charles Sampson, made three changes to the starting lineup, with Theresa Darko, Mary Amponsah, and Fatima Fuseini all coming into the starting lineup.

Nigeria dominated the game and finished the first half two goals up, with Janet Akeremkowei scoring a free kick in the 15th minute, and Alaba Olabiyi adding the second in the 23rd minute.

Ghana came close to scoring with efforts from Mary Amponsah, Linda Owusu, and Sarah Nyarko, but were unable to beat the Nigerian goalkeeper.

The Falconets scored a third in the closing stage to seal the win and claim a double over Ghana, having already beaten them in their first encounter in the competition.

Head coach Charles Sampson views this as a valuable learning experience, allowing him to assess his team ahead of future assignments.

The Black Princesses end their tournament campaign, finishing second. They won two games, both against Benin, while losing two against Nigeria.
