The Black Princesses of Ghana fell to their first defeat in the ongoing WAFU B U-20 Girls’ Championship, losing 3-1 to Nigeria’s Falconets on Saturday.
Ghana had begun their campaign on a bright note with a 2-0 win over host nation Benin, but were undone by Nigeria’s clinical finishing in their second group game.
Janet Seimeyeha led the charge for the Falconets with a brace, while Chiamaka Favour added a late third to secure victory. Sarah Nyarko netted Ghana’s only goal, her second of the tournament.
Seimeyeha opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 38th minute after a foul inside the box, before doubling Nigeria’s advantage with a deft chip over the goalkeeper just before halftime.
Nyarko offered Ghana a lifeline shortly after the restart, pouncing on a rebound in the 49th minute after her teammate’s effort came off the crossbar.
But despite their improved second-half display, the Princesses were punished again late on, as Chiamaka headed home from a corner in the 88th minute to wrap up the win.
Ghana will look to bounce back when they face Benin on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 GMT.
