WAFU B U-17 Championships: Ghana to battle Nigeria in semis on Tuesday

Black Starlets

Ghana’s Black Starlets will renew their age-old rivalry with Nigeria when the two sides clash in the semifinals of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship on Tuesday, September 30.

The Starlets sealed their place in the last four with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Niger on Friday night.

Nigeria, meanwhile, advanced after topping their group following a goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Saturday.

A win for Ghana would not only secure a spot in the final but also guarantee qualification for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, a tournament the two-time world champions have not featured in since 2017.

On that occasion, the Black Starlets finished as runners-up at the continental showpiece before reaching the quarter-finals of the FIFA U17 World Cup.

In the other semifinal, hosts Ivory Coast will battle Burkina Faso at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, which will also stage Friday’s grand finale.

Ghana boasts a storied record at youth level, having twice lifted both the FIFA U17 World Cup and the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
