Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says Ghana’s qualification hopes remain alive as the team prepares for a must-win final group game against Tanzania at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana’s campaign has been far from ideal, with the team currently at the bottom of Group C after collecting just one point from their first two matches — a loss to South Africa followed by a 1-1 draw with Mali.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Sunday, Bjorkegren admitted his disappointment with the slow start but remained optimistic.
“We are disappointed with one point. We think that we deserve more,” the Swiss trainer said.
“Now we have everything in our own hands, and that is to make sure to win the game tomorrow.”
Forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, who joined Bjorkegren at the media briefing, shared similar sentiments and expressed confidence in the squad.
“Throughout the whole team, there’s positivity. We believe in ourselves.”
“We know we have got the quality. We just have to go out and show them.”
The Black Queens must defeat Tanzania and hope group leaders South Africa beat Mali to stand a chance of qualifying for the Round of 16.
Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
