Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has expressed his disappointment following his side’s 2-0 loss to South Africa in their opening Group C clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Making a return to the continental stage for the first time since 2018, the Black Queens were outclassed by the defending champions, Banyana Banyana, on Monday.
Speaking after the match, the Swedish tactician admitted that while the result was disappointing, he was encouraged by the overall effort from his team.
“Of course, I’m a little bit disappointed with the result, but not so disappointed with the performance. As I said, it was going to be a close game, and I think it was,” Björkegren said.
The defeat leaves Ghana at the bottom of Group C, adding pressure ahead of their must-win second group fixture against Mali, scheduled for Friday, July 11.
