Algeria head coach Farid Benstiti is targeting greater efficiency from his team ahead of their crucial quarterfinal showdown against Ghana at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The North Africans will take on the Black Queens on Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with a place in the semifinals at stake.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Benstiti described the fixture as a finely balanced contest.
“Football at the quarter-finals is 50/50,” he said. “It is not a problem for us [that we have only won one game]. We want to be more efficient against Ghana. That is our problem to resolve.”
The Algerian trainer expressed confidence in his team’s offensive play but admitted they must improve their finishing if they are to progress.
“We hope to continue to play offensively, and we will try to be more efficient. I hope that it will be a very great game.”
Algeria booked their place in the last eight after recording one win and two draws in the group stage. Ghana, meanwhile, advanced with a win, a draw, and a loss.
Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
