The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has commended the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) for its continued commitment to upholding professional standards and promoting ethical leadership within the accounting profession.
He made the commendation while delivering his address at the 2026 Accountants Conference held at Mawuli Senior High School in Ho under the theme: “Building Strong and Sustainable Economies: Standards, Integrity and Accountability.”
According to the Minister, accountants play a critical role in strengthening governance systems, ensuring transparency, and promoting accountability in both public and private institutions.
“This year’s theme, Building Strong and Sustainable Economies, Standards, Integrity, and Accountability, is both timely and relevant,” the Minister said.

He noted that the work of professional accountants remains essential to the economic growth and development of the country, especially at a time when integrity and accountability are needed to sustain investor confidence and national progress.
Mr. Gunu praised the Institute for its dedication to nurturing competent professionals who continue to contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic transformation through ethical practices and sound financial management.
“I commend the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana for its continuous commitment to upholding professional standards and promoting ethical leadership within the accounting profession.
“The role of accountants in nation-building cannot be underestimated. Accountants are not merely the keepers of figures and financial records; they are custodians of transparency, accountability and public trust. In both the public and private sectors, their work supports effective planning, prudent resource management and sound decision-making. As a country, we continue to pursue reforms in governance, restoring confidence in public institutions and ensuring accountability in the use of public resources.
“In all these efforts, the accounting profession in the Ministry is a key partner in driving integrity and accountability. Through your work, you continue to contribute significantly to economic stability and national development. The Volta Region is steadily positioning itself as a destination for investment, tourism, agriculture and industrial growth. As we pursue this vision, we recognize the importance of strong financial systems and accountable institutions in attracting investors and ensuring sustainable development in our region,” James Gunu stated.
He further urged members of the accounting profession to remain steadfast in maintaining high ethical standards and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
On behalf of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister thanked the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana for bringing this important national programme to the Volta Region, noting that the VRCC appreciates the economic importance of such programmes.
James Gunu also encouraged all participants to take time to explore the warm culture, hospitality and serenity of the region during their stay.
“As we enjoy the beauty of the region, I humbly urge all of us to help keep the city clean and green, in line with its reputation as Ghana’s ‘oxygen city,’” he added.
The conference brought together accountants, financial experts, students and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at building resilient and sustainable economies through transparency, accountability and adherence to professional standards.
