Volta Regional Minister champions unity and development at launch of 2025 Asogli Yam Festival

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has emphasized the importance of national unity, truthfulness, and collective action as fundamental pillars for building a just and prosperous society.

He made the call during the official launch of the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival (Asogli Te Za) at the GNAT Hall in Ho, describing the celebration as more than a cultural ritual, but a rallying point for national reflection and renewal.

Addressing a distinguished gathering of chiefs, queen mothers, diplomats, ministers of state, municipal leaders, and cultural enthusiasts, Gunu commended Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, and the Asogli Traditional Council for their unwavering leadership and commitment to cultural preservation and national discourse.

“This year’s theme, ‘Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation’, speaks directly to the vision we must all embrace — a Ghana anchored in integrity, inclusiveness, and sustainable development,” the Minister noted.

He further stated that the yam, which is central to the festival, symbolizes not just food security but also the resilience, gratitude, and collective effort of a people determined to advance together. Gunu added that these values must extend beyond the festival into all aspects of Ghana’s national life.

“As Regional Minister, I remain fully committed to supporting festivals like Asogli Te Za — not only because they preserve our rich cultural heritage, but also because they drive tourism, create investment opportunities, and foster social cohesion in the region,” he added.

The Minister urged citizens of the Volta Region and Ghanaians at large to see the festival as an opportunity to recommit themselves to national values, especially in the context of peacebuilding, development, and accountable governance.

“Let us use this moment to reflect on our shared values, deepen partnerships, and renew our collective resolve to pursue the peace and prosperity of our region and our beloved Ghana,” he said.

The Asogli Yam Festival, one of Ghana’s most prestigious and spiritually significant traditional events, is celebrated annually by the Asogli people in honour of the yam harvest. It serves as a platform for unity, thanksgiving, and cultural display, attracting thousands of visitors both locally and internationally.

With the official launch setting the tone, the 2025 edition is expected to feature a robust lineup of events, including traditional durbars, investment fora, health screenings, youth and women empowerment activities, and cultural exhibitions. It also presents a significant opportunity to spotlight the Volta Region’s growing role in Ghana’s tourism and economic development agenda.

Gunu closed his address with a message of goodwill, calling for a peaceful, memorable, and impactful celebration.

“May the 2025 Asogli Te Za be peaceful, memorable, and impactful. May it strengthen the bonds that unite us and inspire us to build a better future together.”

As preparations unfold across the Asogli State, expectations are high for a festival that will not only celebrate the harvest of yams but also sow seeds of national dialogue, unity, and transformation.
