Vigil to be held for Daddy Lumba on Saturday, August 2

The family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, has announced a candlelight vigil and other commemorative events to honour the legacy of the music icon.

In an official release issued through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, the family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians and fans worldwide for the massive outpouring of love, prayers, and condolences following the artiste’s passing after a brief illness.

According to the statement, in memory of Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary life and enduring contribution to Ghanaian music, a candlelight vigil will be held at Independence Square on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

The vigil, being organised under the auspices of the Creative Arts Agency, is expected to draw thousands of fans to celebrate the life of a man many regard as one of the greatest highlife musicians of all time.

It forms part of a global tribute taking place concurrently in Ghana, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands.

The family has kindly urged the public to respect their privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved, while also inviting all to take part in the public events being planned to honour Daddy Lumba’s memory.

Known for timeless classics such as Aben Wo Aha, Yentie Obiaa, and Theresa, Daddy Lumba’s influence stretched across decades and generations.

Details of the final funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated in the coming weeks.
