A 36-year-old street vendor has died after being hit by a commercial vehicle with failed brakes at Appollo Traffic Light in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region on Monday.
The victim, identified as Naomi Dadzie, was carrying out her usual hawking activities when the speeding vehicle veered off the road and struck her.
Eyewitnesses said the impact was severe, leaving her with fatal injuries. She was rushed to the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Several passengers in the vehicle also sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police have launched investigations into the accident.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of street vendors operating along busy roads, where overspeeding and poorly maintained vehicles continue to pose serious risks.
