Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has visited the site of the collapsed building at Accra Experimental Basic School in Newtown following the tragic incident on Sunday.

The collapse of the uncompleted school structure, reportedly used for Christian worship on Sundays, has claimed three lives, while 20 people are receiving treatment in hospital.

Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are currently clearing the debris after successful search and rescue operations. The area has been cordoned off to ensure the safety of the teams at work.

Accompanied by the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed deep sadness over the incident, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The Vice President later visited the injured victims at the 37 Military Hospital.

The incident prompted a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), NADMO, and the Ghana Police Service.
