The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), University of Cape Coast (UCC) chapter, has given the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) 48 hours to reverse its sanctions against the university.
The Commission recently suspended all government support and services to UCC and marked the institution as “non-existent” on its official portal, citing alleged non-compliance with directives regarding the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong.
UTAG-UCC Secretary, Dr. Isaac Boabeng, described GTEC’s action as “unlawful, unjustifiable, and a direct attack on the dignity and livelihoods of staff.”
He warned that withholding salaries as part of the sanctions would be “criminal and reckless.”
Dr. Boabeng insisted that GTEC must withdraw its directive and issue a formal apology by Friday, or face mass protests.
“If GTEC fails to act, we will march to Accra. They should come and lock the University of Cape Coast and take the keys to Accra. GTEC and Professor Okloh must understand that there are laws in this country,” he said.
