Upper West Bar Chairman demands action on stalled Wa High Court project

Chairman of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in the Upper West Region, Lawyer Ubeidu Bin Sidik, has raised concern over the deplorable state of court infrastructure in the region, calling for urgent government intervention.

Speaking at the 149th Bar Conference in Wa, Lawyer Bin Sidik described the situation as “worrying and unacceptable,” noting that the Wa High Court Complex project, which began nearly two decades ago, remains incomplete and abandoned by the contractor.

“The courtrooms we currently have are not only too small to accommodate the growing number of cases but are also in deplorable condition. It is disheartening that a project meant to ease this burden has stalled for so long,” he lamented.

The Upper West Region currently operates with just one High Court, two Circuit Courts, and five District Courts, facilities he said are inadequate to meet the demands of justice delivery in a rapidly growing region.

Lawyer Bin Sidik therefore appealed for expedited action to complete the long-delayed Wa High Court Complex. He also urged government to consider establishing an additional High Court in Wa to ease the pressure on the existing one.

“The people of this region deserve better. Justice delayed is justice denied, and if our court infrastructure cannot match the caseload, the very essence of justice is undermined,” he stressed.
