The University of Ghana has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a member of its Safety and Security Services Directorate (SSSD) allegedly assaulting a young man.
In a statement issued by the University’s Public Affairs Directorate, Management said it had taken note of the circulating footage and was treating the matter with urgency.
Preliminary information indicates that the individual involved is not a student of the University but was reportedly apprehended by the security officer on suspicion of theft.
The University reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on violence, stressing that staff are expected to adhere to strict professional standards, particularly in their interactions with the public.
Management noted that a full-scale investigation has been initiated to establish the facts surrounding the incident, guided by the institution’s Consolidated Code of Conduct for Employees.
It assured the public that if the officer is found culpable, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in line with University regulations and the laws of Ghana relating to assault.
The University further emphasised its commitment to accountability and due process as it works to address the matter.
