Unity Cup: Nigeria announces squad to face Ghana, omits key players

-

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup, scheduled to kick off later this month.

The list features several key players but also includes some unexpected omissions, with a few big names left out of the lineup.

Nigeria is set to renew its fierce rivalry with regional foes Ghana in the semifinals of the tournament. The much-anticipated encounter will take place on Tuesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT.

The winner of that showdown will advance to the final, where they will face either Jamaica or Trinidad & Tobago. The final is slated for Saturday, May 31, at 12:30 GMT.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named a strong squad, featuring midfield stalwarts Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka—both of whom bring valuable Premier League experience. The attack will be led by Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon.

However, the squad announcement also raised eyebrows following the exclusion of regular stars such as Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo, and Calvin Bassey.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo is expected to release his final squad for the tournament in the coming days.
