The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a domestic fire that broke out at Suhyen in the Eastern Region, preventing the blaze from spreading to the rest of an eight-bedroom self-contained house.
The fire, which occurred in the kitchen of the residence on Wednesday, July 8, was responded to by personnel from the New Juaben North Municipal Fire Station.

According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 3:46 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of an eight-member firefighting crew led by Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADO II) Avornyo.
The team arrived at the scene within minutes and brought the fire under control by 4:12 p.m. before completely extinguishing it four minutes later at 4:16 p.m.

The Service said the swift response prevented the fire from engulfing the entire building, limiting the damage to the kitchen area.
Items destroyed in the fire included a 6kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder, a cooking pot and other items within the cooking area.

Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service indicate that the outbreak was caused by unattended cooking.

The GNFS has once again advised the public to avoid leaving food unattended while cooking and to observe basic fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
