
The United Nations in Ghana has expressed profound sorrow over the fatal crash of a military Z-9 helicopter that claimed the lives of several senior government officials.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 6, the UN extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of Ghana following the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and others who were on board.
“The United Nations family in Ghana mourns with the nation in this moment of deep grief. This tragedy is not only a national wound but also a loss felt across the international community,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its support for Ghana during this difficult period, the UN added: “We stand united at this time of mourning. We honour the memory of all those who have passed, with hope for their lasting peace.”
The accident, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has been described by the Presidency as a devastating blow to the nation.
