In a moment filled with joy, unity, and solidarity, Ubor Magal Kuunboln I has been officially chosen as the Greater Accra Regional Konkomba Chief, representing all Konkombas in the Greater Accra Region.

He will now hold the stool as Ubor Magal Kuunboln IV, the substantive chief for Konkombas in Greater Accra.

The announcement was made by the Paramount Chief of the Namong Traditional Area, Ubor Bugri Naabu, in the presence of elders and members of the Konkomba community.

The colourful ceremony brought together traditional leaders, youth, and well-wishers from across the region, marking a significant milestone towards strengthening unity and development among Konkombas in the capital.

According to the chairman of the seven-member selection committee, five individuals expressed interest in the position.

Following a series of interviews, background checks, and thorough deliberations, the committee unanimously found Ubor Magal Kuunboln I to be the most qualified candidate to occupy the esteemed stool.

The appointment followed the passing of the late Greater Accra Konkomba Chief. After his burial and funeral, the committee was tasked to identify a suitable successor—a process that has now culminated in the confirmation of Ubor Magal Kuunboln I as the new substantive chief.

Currently serving as the Konkomba-Basaari Chief of Tema-Ashaiman, Ubor Magal Kuunboln I is widely recognized for his dedication to peace, leadership, and community development.

He has been instrumental in fostering harmony among Konkombas across various regions, including spearheading peace and reconciliation efforts in Nkwanta in the Oti Region during times of conflict.

During his reign as Konkomba-Basaari Chief of Tema-Ashaiman, he established the Konkomba Yam Market at Gbetseli in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region together with some elders, which seems like a major step towards empowering Konkomba traders and promoting local economic growth.

Beyond his traditional role, Ubor Magal Kuunboln I also serves as the Director of Communications for the Council of Konkomba Chiefs and has been recognized for his leadership excellence, winning honors at the Ghana Leadership Awards in both 2023 and 2024, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

He has long been a champion of unity among Konkombas, urging members of the community to uphold their image and work collectively towards progress and development.

During the ceremony, Ubor Bugri Naabu encouraged all Konkombas in the Greater Accra Region to support the newly installed chief:

“Let us all stand behind our new and substantive chief, Ubor Magal Kuunboln I, to make Konkombas a symbol of unity on the lands of the Ga Traditional Council,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Ubor Magal Kuunboln I expressed heartfelt gratitude to the elders and the entire Konkomba community for the trust placed in him.

“Unity is our strength,” he emphasized. “There is a proverb that says one finger cannot pick up a stone. We can only succeed through love, togetherness, and mutual support. The task ahead is great, but with unity, I believe we can achieve all our goals.”

Ubor Magal Kuunboln I holds a strong background in education and leadership. His ascension to the stool marks a new chapter for the Konkomba community in the Greater Accra Region one founded on peace, progress, and unity.
