Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson is confident his team will be mentally ready for their crucial return leg against South Africa in the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana settled for a 2-2 draw in the first leg on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, despite taking the lead twice. Agnes Yeboah opened the scoring, and Linda Owusu Ansah restored Ghana’s advantage in the second half, but South Africa fought back to earn a share of the spoils.

The result leaves the Black Princesses with no margin for error, as a win in South Africa is essential to progress to the final round of the qualifiers.

Sampson, however, is optimistic about his team’s mindset ahead of the crucial fixture.

“We have a crop of players that are mentally strong and psychologically, we will also do those parts and get them tuned and ready for the next to make sure we get what we are looking for,” Sampson said.

He added, “We know that there are two games; a home and away, that is why we are here. We are going to prepare and make sure we go to South Africa to their home and go forward.”

A win in the return leg would see Ghana advance to the final qualifying round, where they could face either Zambia or Uganda.

Sampson and his squad are expected to travel on Tuesday ahead of the second leg, scheduled for Sunday, February 14.
