U-20 AFCON: Ofei confident ahead of DR Congo clash

-

Black Satellites head coach, Desmond Sakyi Ofei, is optimistic as his team prepares for their Group C opener against DR Congo at the New Suez Stadium.

Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Ofei expressed gratitude to Egypt for stepping in to host the tournament on short notice.

“We are happy to be here in Egypt,” he said. “It’s important that we get off to a good start.”

Ofei acknowledged DR Congo as a formidable opponent, describing them as a “strong, aggressive, and direct” team.

However, he remains confident in his squad’s ability to compete.

“Every team in this tournament is strong. We have to show our identity and pedigree,” he stated.

The coach also reassured fans of the team’s readiness, highlighting their desire to display the talent that Ghana has to offer.

“The boys are ready. We want to showcase our talent, but we also need to neutralise DR Congo to get the right result.”

On Ghana’s approach to the tournament, Ofei emphasised the importance of hard work, the right mindset, and a game-by-game focus.

“We are approaching this tournament game by game. We’re going to push for a positive result in the first game and then look forward to the next.”

Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 18:00 GMT.

Ghana, a four-time U-20 champion and the reigning champion from 2021, will be eager to reaffirm their dominance in African football.

The Black Satellites will also face Senegal and the Central African Republic in their remaining group matches, with the goal of reaching the semifinals to secure a spot in the U-20 World Cup.
