Ghana U-20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, remains confident his team will secure a place in the next round of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite a 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their Group C opener.
The Black Satellites were held to a stalemate on Friday at the New Suez Stadium, with both sides sharing the spoils after an evenly contested encounter.
DR Congo took the lead following a lapse in Ghana’s defence, allowing Messy Manitu to thread a precise pass to Ntanda, who calmly finished past the Ghanaian goalkeeper.
However, Ghana responded swiftly, and Aziz Musibau levelled the score in the 24th minute with a composed finish to restore parity. The game remained tight, with neither side able to find a winner.
Speaking after the match, Coach Ofei expressed optimism about his side’s chances moving forward.
“The group is open, and we will fight for qualification,” he said.
Elsewhere in the group, Senegal also played out a 1-1 draw with the Central African Republic, meaning all four teams are level on one point after the first round of matches.
Ghana’s next challenge comes on Monday when they face Senegal at the New Suez Stadium, with kick-off set for 18:00 GMT.
