Ghana U-20 midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah has admitted that their final group-stage match against the Central African Republic (CAR) posed a significant challenge, despite the Black Satellites emerging with a crucial 1-0 victory on Thursday.
The tightly contested encounter at the Suez Canal Stadium saw Ghana secure all three points thanks to a decisive goal from Joseph Opoku.
The win ensured Ghana finished as leaders of Group C at the ongoing 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“It was a difficult game, but we managed to pick up the win,” Aziz Issah, who was also named Man of the Match, said after the game.
“We knew the game was going to be tough because they needed a win to qualify, and we also needed a point, although we had qualified, but we needed a win to top the group.”
Issah credited the team’s determination for seeing them through in the final moments.
“So we knew it was going to be a difficult game, but we thank God we got the win in the dying minute,” he added.
With the result, head coach Desmond Ofei’s side advances to the quarter-finals, where they will face one of the third-placed teams from Group A or B.
The Black Satellites now have their sights set on reaching the semi-finals, which would automatically secure them a place at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
