Head of Public Relations and Strategy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has expressed confidence in the Black Satellites’ strong start at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Ghana’s U-20 team, placed in Group C, will open their campaign against DR Congo at the New Suez Stadium, with the match set to kick off at 18:00 GMT.
Ahead of the match, Armstrong-Mortagbe emphasized the team’s determination to make a positive start.
“Ghana has not been starting tournaments well, but this time around, the coach [Desmond Ofei] has assured that the team will start well by winning against DR Congo to put ourselves on track to qualify for the next stage,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
He also highlighted the team’s primary goal: securing a spot in the U-20 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
“The major objective is to qualify for the 2025 World Cup, which will be hosted in Qatar later this year,” he said.
“Beyond that, we are not here just to qualify, but once we get the qualification, we go to the next level,” Armstrong-Mortagbe added.
In addition to DR Congo, Ghana will face Senegal and the Central African Republic in their group.
The top four teams from the tournament will earn qualification for the World Cup.
