The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced two young men to a total of 50 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery, bringing an eight-month trial to a close.

Presiding over the case, His Honour Isaac Apeatu delivered the ruling after the accused persons admitted to the charges.

Speaking to Adom News, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command’s Court Officer and Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, identified the convicts as Justice Oduro, also known as Akwasi Ketewaa, 23, and Emmanuel Tweneboah, popularly called Kwame, also 23.

According to ASP Baidoo, the two were convicted on two counts — conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery. The offences were committed at Ekurasi, after which the suspects reportedly went into hiding at Nankawurakro, where they were later arrested in the Jacobu District.

He explained that both individuals pleaded guilty during proceedings and were each sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment, to run concurrently.

Meanwhile, a third suspect, identified only as Akwasi TT, remains at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

The sentencing marks the conclusion of a case that authorities say underscores the judiciary’s commitment to tackling armed robbery in the region.
