Two men jailed three months for dumping refuse at Accra Post Office

Two men, Albert Okai and Amoako Darko, have been sentenced to three months in prison with hard labour for unlawfully dumping refuse at the Accra Post Office.

The custodial sentence came after both men failed to pay a fine of 50 penalty units (GH¢600) each. They are set to serve their term at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

A third suspect, Michael Osei, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded for one week as his case continues in court.

Commenting on the verdict, Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey said the convictions form part of the assembly’s ongoing campaign against indiscriminate refuse dumping.

“This case serves as a clear warning about the consequences awaiting offenders who flout the assembly’s sanitation by-laws. Strict enforcement is crucial to safeguard public health and maintain a clean environment,” he stressed.
