The death of a 26-year-old woman at Kasoa has sparked a strange controversy as two men are each claiming to be the father of the late lady and are organizing separate funerals for her.
The late lady was born Hannah Korankyewaa to a teacher called Seth Ewusi, who was married to the late mother of the deceased, and they lived together under the same roof as a family with other children.
Hannah was named by the teacher, for whom she was born, and he raised her as his first born daughter. She only knew teacher Seth Ewusi as her father.
In the course of time, Hannah’s mother died and was buried without any controversy, until last month when Hannah also passed on and all of a sudden one popular and wealthy hotelier in the area has reared his head claiming to be her biological father.
The hotelier (name withheld), is allegedly claiming he had an affair with the late mother of Hannah, while she was married to Seth Ewusi, and the woman informed him she was pregnant for him so he kept providing for Hannah until the death of the mother.
He has therefore posted Obituaries of Hannah across town and is preparing to give her a befitting funeral and burial Friday and Saturday respectively.
On the Obituaries, he calls the deceased Hannah Otabil, while the known father of the deceased has not even seen the body of his daughter but just her poster with the name Hannah Otabil.
The known family of the deceased have sworn to stop the hotelier from going ahead with the planned funeral for today and Saturday at Bawjiase.
Our Reporter Kofi Adjei visited the area and confirmed that indeed the posters of the lady are all over town with the name Hannah Otabil, and the matter has become the talk of town.
He however said that the hotelier has denied claiming that the deceased is his daughter and is planning to hold her funeral.
But Kofi Adjei said the Obituaries are there to show and the matter is a by word in town.
