Two dead, 12 injured after accident on Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway

Two people lost their lives with 12 others sustaining various degrees of injuries following an accident at Abakam along the Cape Coast–Takoradi stretch of the N1 highway.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday dawn, involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number GS 2455-25 and a Sprinter bus registered WR 316-24.

In a statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said personnel from the Elmina Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after a distress call was received at about 5:11 a.m.

On arrival, the team cordoned off the area, removed debris from the road, and helped ease traffic to reduce the risk of further incidents.

In all, 14 people were affected by the crash. Four of the injured were taken to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital, where two later died while receiving treatment.

The remaining 10 victims are currently undergoing medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged as a result of the collision.
